Week 29 – Spring Fancy-Collar Blouse
Once again, I was lucky enough to pick this fabric up at the Clegs remnant sale – the beautiful Liberty cotton, obtained at a discount! There was just enough fabric there to make a sleeveless spring/summer top, and finish it in an interesting manner.
I made my own bias binding from the cotton, to edge the sleeve openings with, and then cut some ‘wiggly’ lengths of leftover fabric with which to form the collar. The collar has one layer of cotton and beneath it one layer of silk. The edges have been sewn with fishing-line to give structure and form, and the lengths are then gathered and sewn into the facing.
The idea behind the non-standard collar, is to create a comfortable fitted sleeveless blouse, but with a little extra formality and fanciful-ness. The blouse can also be worn with jeans or a high-waisted skirt, thus becoming something that can be worn at work, and then out afterwards; casually or more formally.
